Scary Mary cheese
Scary Mary is an artisan, pasteurised, cows' milk cheese produced by the Godsell family in the Gloucestershire village of Leonard Stanley. It is made with vegetarian rennet.
It is a matured version of Nympsfield and develops a bloomy white rind. It was thought they looked rather scary in the fridge - lots of hairy balls of cheese - hence the name. It is very strong and similar to Camembert but with a peppery, blue finish.
It is only available at Farmer's Markets and upon special request.
