La Vera cheese

The cheese production area is located in the region of La Vera, in the north-east of the province of Cáceres, in the area bordering the river Tietar. It is a very fatty cheese is made with goatsmilk of the Verata breed, which lives in the abundant pastures and mountains in the area. While milk from this breed is scarce, its characteristics make it very popular, especially for the production of this cheese, which is distinguished by its fat, its density and its pleasant aroma.

La Vera cheese

The artisan cheese is usually consumed fresh but sometimes it is sold in olive oil or semi-matured. It weighs between 500g and 1kg. The rind is thin, rough and pale yellow. It has a somewhat acidic flavour and is slightly salty. Its shape is in the form of an irregular cylinder.
