Old Worcester cheese
Old Worcester is produce with pasteurised cows’ milk by the Ansteys at Broomhall Farm, near Worcester. It was initially intended to be a bluecheese, but when the blue mould didn’t take, it ended up “white”.
The Cheddar style full bodied, strong-flavoured cheese is clothbound and matured, resulting in a cheese of great character. It has a unique creamy texture that melts in the mouth.
A smoked version of the cheese is available, which is smoked over oak chippings for a week and called Oak Smoked Old Worcester. Also Lea & Perrins asked the Ansteys to incorporate their sauce into Old Worcester and the result is a deliciously meaty version called Worcestershire Sauce Cheese
