Forest Oak cheese
Forest Oak is an organic, unpasteurised, cows’ milk cheese made by Melissa Ravenhill of Woefuldane Farm, Minchinhampton near Stroud.
Based on the ancient Dunlop cheese it is made to a traditional Scottish recipe. It is firm, subtle, smooth, sweet and buttery with a bite on the finish. It is oak smoked and won an award for best new cheese at the 2005 British Cheese Awards.
The cheese, which is suitable for vegetarians, is only available at the farmer’s markets in Gloucester, Stroud, Cirencester and Cheltenham and a few local shops. However, you can buy the cheese by mail order, directly from the farm.
The cheese won a Bronze Medal in the 2012 British Cheese Awards.
