Newport cheese
Newport is a hard, artisan, unpasteurised cows’ milk from Mr Moyden’s Grove Farm at Church Aston near Newport. The milk is from British Friesian cows.
The cheese takes its name after the town of Newport, near to which, it is produced. Having some resemblance with a young Mimolette it is matured for 4 months. It has a mellow, buttery, sweet flavour and has a pale tangerine colour. The rind is brushed with local rapeseed oil to help preserve and protect the cheese from drying out too much.
Newport has won the following awards:
Silver Medal at the Nantwich International Cheese Show 2006
Bronze medal at the British Cheese awards 2006
Bronze medal at the British Cheese awards 2007
