Seasonal Information
Cooking and eating seasonal stuff is better for various reasons, including but not limited to:
- it reduces energy and CO2 emissions
- it's cheaper and it supports local producers and local economy
- it reconnects people to the natural cycle
- it is fresher, tastier and more nutritious
It's not only about fruit and vegetables, fish, seafood and meat are also seasonal.
Here is a list of ingredients and when they are at their best or "in season" in UK:
Vegetables
- Artichokes: from the beginning of June until the end of November
- Brussels sprouts: from the end of November until the end of February
- Jerusalem artichokes: from the end of October until the end of February
Fruit
- Apples from mid September to mid January
- Pears from the beginning of September until the end of January
Seafood
- Brill: from the beginning of October until the end of February
- Monkfish: from the beginning of August until mid January
- Mussels: from the beginning of October until the end of March
- Oysters: from the beginning of October until the end of March
- Turbot: from the end of August until mid February
