Pie, tart and flan tin size conversion charts
Pie, tart or flan conversion charts
These tables show the amount of shortcrust pastry needed for pie, flan and tart tins or rings of differing diameters so that you can adapt recipes for the tins you already have, rather than buying new ones. If your tin is deeper than average then you will need to increase the quantities slightly. Note, you may need to reduce or increase the temperature and cooking time if there is a large difference between the original product diameter and the one you are making.
To convert the amount of mixture you need for fillings (by volume) between different tin sizes, please refer to our Cake tin conversion charts page'

Square tins or Round tins?
If you are using square tins the following tells you the equivalent round size tin to use and you can then refer to the table above for pastry quantities. To find the square tin equivalent of rectangular tins do the following:
- Measure both sides of the rectangular tin
- Multiply the two figures
- Calculate the square root of the result and this will give you the square tin size, from which you can then find the round tin equivalent.
Example: The Alan Silverwood tranche tin measures 35.6cm by 12cm which when multiplied, comes to 439.2cm. The square root of 439.2 equals 20.95cm which means that it is roughly equivalent to a 20cm / 8 in square tin (or a 23cm / 9 in round tin)
