Another recipe from Mum's scribbled cookery notes. Her original notes used self-raising flour but she later changed it to plain flour as she thought it was 'nicer'. I'll leave it to you to decide which is best.

Mise en place

  • Preheat the oven to 200Β° C (400Β° F - gas 6), [fan oven 180Β° C & reduce cooking time by 10 mins per hour]

Method

  1. Peel, core and dice the apples
  2. Chop the dates and crush the walnuts
  3. Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and mix until combined well
  4. Spread the mixture into a lightly greased 20 cm (8") square shallow baking tray
  5. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown

Serving suggestions

Cut into squares and server warm with soured cream
